A Triumvirate of Chinese Crested Dogs

My beloved little mutt is always delighted to meet dogs that are her own size or smaller. She likes to be reassured that she's not the smallest dog in Rogers Park. Needless to say, she was beside herself with joy when this pack of three Chinese Cresteds all came up and invited her to play.

The Mighty Thor

Thor is a handsome, chill, and very big fellow that i encountered while strolling through Rogers Park yesterday. He's a dignified guy with a lovely, plush coat. All I had with me were the tiny little Zuke's treats that i give my own mini-dog, but Thor took one from my hand as delicately as a debutante taking an hors d'oeuvre. 

Bonjour, Bosko!

This dapper little gentleman in an elegant plaid bowtie is Bosko, a shiba inu mix. He's as sweet as he is handsome. 

Big and Little Buddies

It's a beautiful day for the last outdoor Glenwood Sunday Market of the season (The first indoor market will be held in the Glenwood Bar on Sunday, 8 November). Because my usually charming canine companion was not on her best behavior this morning, i went to the market without her, which made it a lot easier to stop and take a picture of these two best buddies. 

Perennial crowd-pleaser and past star of this blog, Ralphie, was there with his giant ears as well. Sorry i called you Louie, Ralphie; if it's any consolation, i'm even worse at remembering people's names.

A Chorus Line of Cuties

These three mini-schnauzers were delighted that the rain finally stopped
and they could go out for a leisurely Saturday stroll. Nevertheless,
they graciously paused and posed so i could take their picture. 

There's a New Maisie in Town

Maisie,
a very sweet and affectionate Newfoundland pup.

I don't know how to break the news to my own little dog that she is not the only Maisie in Rogers Park, and she's definitely not the biggest.  This great big, cuddly Newfoundland pup stole my heart at the farmers market this morning. 

Two Little Stallones

It wasn't easy getting a good picture of these two little action heroes: Rocky and Rambo. I would have loved to have gotten a good picture of their faces, but they were too busy pursuing whatever mission they were on to sit still and smile for the camera. 

Ralphie!

This is Ralphie, a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix, with a big personality (and a pretty impressive pair of ears). He's so cute that i couldn't choose which picture to post. So here are all three.

The little guy on the left is a Rogers Parker, who was showing 

his guest all the sights. 

POSTSCRIPT:

This is one of those embarrassing (but not uncommon) occasions 

when i've made a point of asking a dog's name and then completely 

forgotten it by the time i got home and was ready to post on the blog. 

So, if these little cuties' humans happen to see this and would like me 

to include their dogs' names and breeds, send me a message.

Dakota Likes This Weather More than You Do

This is Dakota, one of the sweetest and prettiest dogs in Rogers Park --
or anywhere else. She does not understand why the rest of us are
complaining about the weather.  She thinks this is a beautiful day.

Dog Day Morning

It was a beautiful morning for a walk on the beach. Dogs of all sizes and shapes, and in all manner of winter couture, were out enjoying the sunshine and getting together with old friends and new. 

Here are Anson and Cyril posing nicely, 
while Elote casually strolls by in his elegant winter coat.

This is the wildly popular Baron. 
Seriously, he seemed to know everyone--dog and human--
 on the beach. He is wearing a gorgeous winter coat 
that his human made for him.

The noble Boo finds a stick worthy of his attention. 
This is Boo's second appearance in this blog. I first met him 
last June, soaking wet after a romp in the lake.
I try not to play favorites, but I really love this big boy!

Beautiful Maguyuk

Maguyuk is a handsome three-year-old Siberian Husky. He's more than just another pretty face, though--he's also one of the sweetest dogs that i've encountered on my travels through Rogers Park. His name is Inuit for "the howler." I've never heard him utter a single sound--no matter how much my own little dog dances around him in her overly frisky way. But i'm sure that when the situation calls for it, he will voice that otherworldly song for which the breed is noted.

Dear Reader,

I am taking a break from this and my other blogs for the next couple of weeks to focus on personal and professional matters. I hope to return by mid-August. In the meantime, if you don't have a dog, think about adopting one. There are so many dogs (and cats) sitting in shelters hoping for a home. 

Oh, the Cuteness!

Watch out, Rogers Park, there's a new puppy in town! And s/he's adorable! This is Clue, a two-month old Shih Tzu-Chichuahua (ShiChi) mix, who somehow ended up looking a lot like a Jack Russell. Although she seems like a quiet little cuddle-bug here with her proud Papa, she's got a big personality and lots of energy.  She was having a great time getting to know all the other dogs at Loyola Park this afternoon and collecting smiles from everyone she met. 

A Nice Little Dog Looking for a Home

My canine collaborator and i encountered this sweet little American Eskimo Dog on our evening walk. His name is Cubby, and he is currently living with a foster mom in Rogers Park, but he's hoping someone will adopt him soon and give a permanent home. If you are interested in adopting Cubby, please visit the Chicagoland Eskie Rescue website.  He's a cute little guy, and i hope he finds a home soon!
